Winter

I hesitated before writing this entry because it's Nov. 25th and there's no snow on the ground. It's cold, the air feels like cold water, but there's no snow. Weird. I'll update this when there's snow I guess.

I've been fine during the pandemic, very fortunate actually. I've started studying Anishinaabemowin with a friend. He's studying a related language, Neshnabémwen, spoken in Illinois. It's been fun so far. I learned the word for coffee, makade-mashkikiwaaboo. Anishinaabemowin is a polysynthetic language, so one 'word' has a lot of morphemes. Here's a gloss:

I've been having a lot of fun with it. It doesn't work like English or Russian, the two languages I'm most familiar with. I'm stumbling over some of the reduplication in words like ninitaawichige "I'm good at it". Fluency comes with practice, and practice makes perfect. It's really fun to study.

Happy holidays! It's the new year, and things are pretty similar to how they were before. There's snow on the ground now, which is pretty cool. My family got a new cat, she's a shorthaired Cornish Rex. She's very small and cute, and loves to snuggle. She's getting used to us and our house. Things are good here right now, glory to God.

Still later, mid-February to be exact

Ok, so we're still alright. I thought about asking this one girl out, but tbh she's un peu névrotique. She was a roommate of mine when I was in college, and she's kinda charming. I hesitate to ask her out though, but I can't quite pinpoint why. I don't want to rush into something just because I've been stuck inside since uhhhhhh March 2020. Much to think about.
